Who am I?
Reena Hajat Carroll is the CEO of Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE®), a 40-year established non-profit organization that teaches families and caregivers how to incorporate a deep respect and appreciation of infants and toddlers using Magda Gerber Educaring® Approach. The Approach encourages infants and adults to trust each other, learn to problem solve, and embrace their ability for self-discovery.
How did you find FORM?
I learned about FORM from Polly Elam who was very enthusiastic and eager for me to learn about it!
What aspect of the Educaring® Approach resonates with you the most and why?
I love that one of the important ways we define respect is through communication and that we show parents and caregivers how to communicate. Communication as a skill is not always easy, but the Educaring® Approach models how to do it (sports casting), which is an amazing resource for anyone of any age!
What are you most grateful for?
As I get older, I have become so grateful for all of life’s experiences, some good and some bad, that have taught me valuable lessons and more importantly provided texture to my life.
What is one thing you do for yourself? Or what would you like to do for yourself?
I love getting massages – it is the one thing I do just for me!
If your life was a book or song, what would the title be?
What was your favorite book as a child?
The Giving Tree
What teacher inspired you the most? How?
My college sociology teacher inspired me in many ways, but one key way was by telling us the first day of class that “you know what I mean” is not a sufficient answer. And that for the rest of our lives, people won’t know what we mean, so we need to get really good at articulating our perspectives.
What 3 words best describe you?
Outgoing. Grateful. Organized
What is the best question anyone has asked you?
I think it has yet to be asked!
